1958's Biggest Artists, Albums and Songs

New Artists in the Pop Charts Included:
Little Anthony and the Imperials, The Big Bopper, Johnny Otis Show, Link Wray, Dion and the Belmonts, Ritchie Valens
"Tom and Jerry" had a top 50 Billboard hit with Hey, Schoolgirl. They did much better for themselves when they used their real names, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkle later in the 1960s.
'Novelty Pop' also came into the pop music culture - David Seville's Witch Doctor and The Chipmonk Song, Sheb Wooley's Purple People Eater, The Five Blobs' The Blob and Beep Beep by the Playmates hit the Bilboard Charts, as did Bird Dog (The Everly Brothers), Yakety Yak (The Coasters), Short Shorts (The Royal Teens) and Splish Splash by Bobby Darin.
1958 also brought us some of the memorable pop/rock instrumentals of all time - Miserlou by Dick Dale, Tequila by the Champs, Rumble by Link Wray, March From the River Kwai and Colonel Bogey by Mitch Miller and Rebel Rouser by Duane Eddy.
